The Full Story On
Climate Change Project on Rainfall Observation (CCPRO)
Empowering young people to become citizen scientists through climate education and rainfall monitoring.
The Climate Change Project on Rainfall Observation (CCPRO) is a youth-led initiative of the Barbados 4-H Foundation that empowers students with practical skills in climate science through hands-on rainfall observation, the construction and maintenance of school-based weather stations, weather monitoring, and environmental data collection. By collecting, recording, and analyzing rainfall data, students contribute valuable information that supports climate awareness, agricultural planning, and national climate resilience while gaining a deeper understanding of climate change and its impact on Barbados.

Purpose
To create a sustainable, youth-led initiative that supports national climate data collection while empowering young people with practical climate science and environmental monitoring skills. CCPRO also aims to integrate rainfall observation into the 4-H FOURWARD STEM Curriculum to encourage long-term engagement and sustainability.
Vision
A generation of environmentally conscious young leaders who use science, technology, and observation to support climate resilience and sustainable development throughout Barbados.

Objectives
Project Objectives
CCPRO aims to:
-
Educate young people about the importance of rainfall data for agriculture, water management, and disaster preparedness.
-
Train students and 4-H leaders in the use, care, and maintenance of rainfall monitoring equipment.
-
Establish school-based rainfall observation stations across Barbados.
-
Collect reliable rainfall data to support climate awareness, sustainable agriculture, and environmental planning.
-
Increase public awareness of climate change through education, outreach, and community engagement.

Why CCPRO?
Barbados faces increasing challenges from climate change. Rainfall patterns vary across the island, affecting agriculture, water resources, and disaster preparedness. CCPRO addresses these challenges by engaging young people in collecting localized rainfall data while building environmental awareness and supporting national climate resilience.
How CCPRO Works
🌦️ Learn
Students receive structured training in climate science and rainfall observation.
📏 Observe
Participants monitor rainfall using professional rain gauges and weather instruments.
🏠 Build
Students construct and maintain school-based weather stations equipped with rainfall monitoring instruments.
🌱 Contribute
