4-H Promotes Healthy Choices Through Healthy Lifestyles Workshop

The Barbados 4-H Foundation hosted a Healthy Lifestyles Workshop on Thursday, 6th November 2025 at the Springer Memorial School, where 4-H members participated in an interactive session focused on nutrition and healthy eating.
The workshop was led by Ms. Leanda Hurdle, Community Nutrition Officer at the National Nutrition Centre. Opening remarks were also shared by 4-H Public Relations Officer Jan-Yves Holder and 4-H Programme Assistant Mrs. Natasha Douglas-Daniel.
During the session, members learned about the benefits of healthy eating and how to understand and interpret the nutritional information found on food labels. Participants were also given the opportunity to put their learning into practice through a hands-on granola-making activity. Two members from the Springer Eagles 4-H Club, one member from Ellerton Primary and one member from Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary assisted with the preparation.
Ms. Hurdle also demonstrated how to prepare a yogurt parfait, providing members with another simple and nutritious food option that can be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle.
The workshop formed part of the Foundation’s continued efforts to support the Health component of the 4-H programme by giving young people practical knowledge and skills that can help them make more informed choices about nutrition and overall wellbeing.
